Background

Though it is the grape of most of central Italy from Romagna down to Lazio, Campania and Sicily, outside Italy it is most famous as the main component of the blend Chianti. Young Sangiovese has fresh fruity flavors of olives and a little spiciness, but it readily takes on oaky, even tarry, flavors when aged in barrels.

Vintage Notes

2018 turned out to be the ideal red ripening year with good soil moisture from the previous 2017 winter rains. Even though the peak ripening season was particularly hot with several heatwaves the vines kept their canopy and the red fruit had intense colours and flavours during ferment. Firm tannins cradling rich fruit resulted in exceptional dry reds across most varieties

Vineyard Notes

Sourced from a single block in the cooler Polish Hill River sub region of the Clare Valley.

Soft and juicy with a touch of orange peel and a core of raspberry flavour. A completely integrated mid weight red wine that appears seamless finishing with chalky savory tannins.
